Looking for tungsten rings in Pretoria? Shelby Tungsten Rings is a Pretoria tungsten specialist based in Queenswood: 38 men’s tungsten designs from R1 350, a women’s sterling silver range from R1 300, laser engraving and fingerprint engraving done in-house, courier delivery anywhere in South Africa in 3 to 5 working days, and collection in Queenswood by appointment. This guide covers what tungsten rings cost in Pretoria, how to get your size right before you order, what to expect from a jeweller versus a specialist, and how collection and engraving work.
Where Shelby is and how collection works
We are at 1169 Cobham Street, Queenswood, Pretoria, 0186 – in the Moot, about ten minutes from Hatfield and fifteen from Menlyn. We are not a walk-in shop. If you would like to collect rather than have the ring couriered, message us on WhatsApp (064 653 1986) before or just after you order and we arrange a time; you check the fit before you take it home. Otherwise every ring ships by courier with tracking, and most Pretoria addresses receive it within two to three working days of dispatch.
What tungsten rings cost in Pretoria
Pretoria’s high-street jewellers – the chains in Menlyn, Brooklyn and Centurion Mall – usually stock one or two plain tungsten bands at R2 000 to R3 300. Online marketplaces sell unbranded imports at R400 to R900 with no stated binder and little or no warranty. A South African tungsten specialist sits in between: at Shelby a plain polished or brushed men’s band is R1 350, two-tone gold and rose-gold accent designs are R1 450 and real wood inlay rings are R1 550, each with a 24-month manufacturing warranty and a 30-day size exchange. For a fuller breakdown of what you get at each price, read men’s tungsten wedding bands in South Africa.
Get the size right before you order
Tungsten carbide cannot be resized, so the size is the one thing to settle first. Three ways to do it in Pretoria:
- Measure a ring you already own with our ring size guide, which calibrates your phone or laptop screen against a bank card. It takes two minutes and works for most people.
- Ask any jeweller to size your finger. Most jewellery counters in Menlyn, Brooklyn Mall, Kolonnade or Centurion will do it free in a minute. Ask for the US size, and tell them the band will be 8 mm wide and comfort fit – a wide band fits about a quarter to half a size tighter than a thin one.
- Collect and check. If you collect in Queenswood you try the ring on before you leave, and if it is wrong we swap it for the right size where we have it in stock.
Measure in the evening when fingers are at their largest, size for the knuckle, and if you are between sizes on a comfort-fit band take the smaller one. If it still isn’t right after delivery, the 30-day exchange costs you only the courier fee. Read why tungsten rings can’t be resized for the full explanation.
Engraving and fingerprint rings
Engraving is done by our own team in Pretoria, not sent away, which keeps turnaround short. Text engraving – a date, initials or a short phrase in a Classic serif or a Script hand – is R25 per character with a R150 minimum, chosen on the product page. Fingerprint engraving is R795 on any tungsten ring: tick the box on the product page and we contact you afterwards for the print (an ink print on paper or a phone scan both work). Engraved rings are made to order and cannot go back into stock, so confirm your size before we engrave.
Jeweller or tungsten specialist?
A jeweller is the right call if you want to see gold, platinum and tungsten side by side on one visit, or if the ring is part of a bigger purchase. A specialist makes sense when you already know you want tungsten: the range is wider (plain, brushed, black, two-tone and wood inlay at Shelby, against one or two bands at most counters), prices are lower because there is no mall rent in them, and engraving is part of the service rather than an extra trip. Whichever you choose, ask the same questions: what is the binder (nickel is the hypoallergenic standard, cobalt is not), is there a size exchange, and what does the warranty cover.
Rings for couples
Many Pretoria couples order together: an 8 mm tungsten band for him from the men’s range, engraved inside with the wedding date or her fingerprint, and a sterling silver ring for her from the women’s range – solitaires, halos, bezel settings and coordinating bands with white or coloured stones, from R1 300. Order both in one checkout and they ship, or are collected, together. If one of you works with your hands – mechanics, nurses, gym regulars – add a silicone ring for work days.
Delivery times from Pretoria
Rings ship from Pretoria by courier. Gauteng addresses typically receive an in-stock ring in two to three working days, the rest of South Africa in three to five. Engraving adds a little; we confirm the date when the order comes in. Ordering for a wedding? Allow two weeks so there is time for a size swap if you need one.

Frequently asked questions
Can I see the rings in person in Pretoria?
Yes, by appointment in Queenswood – message us on WhatsApp and we arrange a time. We are not a walk-in showroom.
How quickly can I get a tungsten ring in Pretoria?
An in-stock ring without engraving is usually delivered to a Pretoria address within two to three working days of dispatch, or ready for collection sooner. Engraved rings take a little longer.
Do you sell tungsten rings for women?
Our women’s range is sterling silver – solitaires, halos, bezel settings and coordinating bands with cubic zirconia, from R1 300, in sizes 7 to 12 – with the same 30-day size exchange and 24-month warranty. We do not currently make women’s tungsten bands.
What if the ring doesn’t fit?
Un-engraved rings can be exchanged for another size within 30 days; you pay only the courier fee, or swap it at collection. Engraved rings are made to order, which is why we ask you to confirm the size first.
